Gold

Gold – Beautiful, precious and highly desirable. Gold has been treasured since time began. Pure gold i.e. 24 carat gold is too soft to make into jewellery and is therefore alloyed with other metals. 9 carat gold contains 37.5% pure gold and 18 carat gold is 75% pure gold.

White Gold – White gold also comes in 9 carat and 18 carat and is produced from a silver-rich alloy. It is generally a pale yellow or warm white colour and most white gold jewellery would be finished with rhodium plating. Whilst this plating will fade in time, revealing the underlying white/yellow gold colour, the rhodium can be easily re-applied to restore the original finish.

Platinum

Platinum

Platinum ranks among the rarest of metals. Unlike gold, which doesn't work well in its purest form, platinum is used in jewellery at 90% to 95% purity. Platinum is one of the most reflective metals and its hardness means the finish and polish is long lasting. More expensive than gold or silver, its weight and durability ensure it is the ultimate in luxury and exclusivity.

Silver

Silver (sterling silver) is at least 92.5% pure silver. It is the brightest of all new metals when polished, reflecting ninety five percent of incident light that falls on it. Silver, when not used or kept clean, can tarnish. We recommend that jewellery is cleaned with a soft dry cloth (or silver cloth available from most jewellery stores) or if really dirty rinsing in lukewarm, soapy water. You can use silver ‘dip’ type cleaners on most silver jewellery - but always rinse and dry them thoroughly. Do not use these silver cleaning solutions on gold jewellery. Satin or brushed finished silver can be cleaned using a clean pencil rubber or eraser – yes that really works!

Titainum

Titainum

Titanium wedding rings are as strong as steel but with around half the weight and has a very high corrosion resistance, this is due to the ability of the material to, when scratched or machined, form a protective oxidised surface almost instantaneously - unlike gold or silver for example, which oxidises (or tarnishes) slowly over a period of time.

Zirconium

Zirconium is a greyish, white lustrous metal with all the same hypoallergenic qualities as Titanium with one advantage that sets it apart from any other metal in the fact that when it is heat treated, the surface of the metal transforms into a ceramic like material called Zirconia which has hardness equal to sapphire that is extremely scratch resistant.

Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel

A dense, highly durable and rust-resistant metal most often used for watch cases and bracelets. Its natural colour and hardiness means that it only needs to be electroplated or pvd coated if a gold colour is required. It can be given either a polished or matt finish, or a combination of the two for a more decorative finish.
Base Metal
The term 'base metal' is used informally to refer to a non-precious metal that oxidizes or corrodes relatively easily. Examples include iron, brass, lead, zinc & copper.
